Soul Energy Insight
Your birth chart, also called a natal chart, is a map of the sky at the exact moment and place you were born. It is the foundation of all personal astrology, and it is far more detailed than your Sun sign alone.
What is a birth chart?
Imagine freezing the sky at the minute you took your first breath. Every planet was in a specific zodiac sign and a specific area of the sky. A birth chart records all of that in one circle, divided into twelve houses.
Because the sky moves constantly, especially the Moon and the Ascendant, two people born on the same day can have very different charts. That is why your birth time and birth place matter.
What you need to calculate your chart
To calculate an accurate natal chart you need three things:
- Your date of birth
- Your exact time of birth (check your birth certificate if you can)
- The city where you were born
The four building blocks
Planets are the “what”: each one represents a part of you. The Sun is your core identity, the Moon your emotions, Mercury your mind, Venus how you love, Mars how you act, and so on.
Signs are the “how”: the sign a planet is in colors the way that energy expresses itself. Venus in Aries loves boldly; Venus in Cancer loves protectively. Explore all 12 zodiac signs.
Houses are the “where”: the twelve houses show which area of life each planet affects, such as career, home, relationships or money.
Aspects are the conversations between planets: the angles between them show which parts of you work in harmony and which create tension and growth.
Start with your Big Three
If a full chart feels overwhelming, start with your Big Three: your Sun sign (who you are becoming), your Moon sign (what you need emotionally) and your Rising sign (how you meet the world). Together they explain far more than a Sun-sign horoscope ever could.
Beyond the planets
A complete chart also includes points like the North and South Nodes (your soul’s direction and comfort zone), Chiron (your deepest wound and healing gift) and Black Moon Lilith (the part of you that refuses to be tamed). Soul Energy Insight shows all of these in one list under your chart, with a reading for each.
Your chart over time
Your natal chart never changes, but the sky keeps moving. Transits show how today’s planets activate your chart, a Solar Return maps your year ahead from birthday to birthday, and a Lunar Return maps each month.
Frequently asked questions
Is a birth chart the same as a natal chart?
Yes. Birth chart and natal chart mean the same thing: a map of the sky at the moment you were born.
What if I don’t know my birth time?
You can still see your planets in their signs, but your Rising sign and houses need a birth time to be accurate. Try your birth certificate, hospital records or a family member.
Is the birth chart in Soul Energy Insight free?
Yes. You can create your full natal chart for free, including planets, houses, aspects and your Ascendant.
